Epic by Conor Kostick

Generations ago, violence was banned on New Earth. Society is governed and conflicts are resolved in the arena of a fantasy computer game, Epic. Everyone plays. If you win, you have the chance to go to university, get more supplies for your community, and fulfill your dreams; if you lose, your life both in and out of the game is worth nothing.

When Erik, seeking revenge for the unjust treatment of his parents, dares to subvert the rules of Epic, he and his friends find themselves up against with the ultimate masters of the game: the Committee. If Erik and his friends win, they may have the key to destroying Epic's tyranny over New Earth. But if they lose . . .

Hleid the Necromancer, also the chairperson. Bekka the druidess. Wolf. Godmund. Halfdan the black. Executioner, played by shifts.
Executioner has a shield from the Prince of Al'Karak, a vorpal blade Acutus, the Bastard Sword of the Moon, and the Longbow of the Falling Stars
Mov is the god of travelers and merchants. Erik found the Bell of Neowthla, given by Mov.

Epic has two moons, Sylvania and Aridia (smaller)
Lives on New Earth in Osterfjord. He wants to fight Central Allocation to avenge his mother's death in the game. He creates a female swashbuckler character named Cindella. It was given a silver pendant worth over a bezant. Erik broke a tooth when he was younger fighting, which is illegal. Thorstein is the librarian. Ragnok Strongarm works for CA, he is a Sidhe elf. Erik has to get his appendix removed, and takes his graduation tournament with a portable player in the hospital. He kills Inry'aat, the Red Dragon. He buys the portable player from Thorstein for 50,000 bezants. Svein Redbeard goes to Hope to figure out the Players' intentions for CA. They want to sail to Cassinopia on the White Falcon by pretending to go after treasure on the Skull Islands to be far away from CA when they challenge them to get Erik's dad out of exile, and Svein goes with them. Inny names an ethereal guard dog Bouncy. Bouncy won't let you on the boat without a special globe. Count Illystivostich, a vampyre, comes on crew. Pirate Duke Raymond follows them. Count works for Raymond and lets him sink the White Falcon, and brings a basilisk, which turns B.E. and Svein to stone. CA removed Svein because he died. Svein came to Erik's house to ask for money after his character died. Bjorn had Aquirion, king of the Merpeople rescue the prisoners and bring B.E. And Svein back to life.
B.E. Has two swords, Thunder and Lightning.
Ragnok wrote New Leviathan, which is anti-CA to get Godmund to change the password for the executioner. He killed Godmund, and now has complete control over the executioner. He kills Thorkell, Hleid, Halfdan, Wolf, and Brynhild. He meets with the Count, and he says that the Osterfjord players want to end the game. Ragnok agrees to kill them. If they enter the Ethereal Tower of Nightmare, Epic ends. He asks for an army from Sir Warren, a NPC who almost came on the White Falcon, but left because the Count came on. Prince Harboran pledged his troops to the battle as well. The Count kills Ragnok in the game and real life for letting Erik in the tower. Svein tried to keep Cindella from unlocking the door with the key she found at Skull Islands. She unlocks it, and the game ends. His parents come home from Roftig.
The avatar is in every NPC, living in the game. Erik buys the Ring of True Seeing from Antilo the jeweler for 150,000 bezants. Anonemuss owns a portable machine in exile, and Harald clips in to speak to Erik for 5,000 bezants.
